Meet Charlotte

Hi, I’m Charlotte, the owner of M24 Arts. I took over the business fully in April 2025.

Alongside the shop, I work as an NHS nurse. Creativity has always been my way to unwind—whether I’m crocheting, sewing, painting, embroidering or convincing myself that I absolutely need to learn another new craft.

Taking over M24 Arts brought together two things I care deeply about: creativity and community. My aim is to build more than a place to buy supplies. I want M24 Arts to feel welcoming, help people discover new hobbies, make learning less intimidating and create opportunities for local people to meet through making.

The shop continues to grow and evolve through new workshops, seasonal displays, community projects, creative reuse and the ideas people bring through our door.

What Matters to Us

Creativity

There is no right level of experience. We want people to feel free to experiment, ask questions and enjoy making.

Community

We support local makers, schools, charities, creative businesses and community groups across Middleton and beyond.

Reuse

Our Scrapstore helps keep useful materials out of waste streams while making creativity more affordable and accessible.

Our Home at Pioneer House

M24 Arts is based at Pioneer House on Lodge Street, in a building with a long connection to Middleton’s changing industrial landscape.

An archaeological investigation found that the building was constructed between 1767 and 1839 and probably began as a workshop. It may have been associated with the nearby homes of a small domestic weaving community during the period when Middleton was changing from a rural settlement into an industrial town.

Although the building later became known as Pioneer Mill, the research found no firm evidence that it operated as a mill. Its exact early purpose remains uncertain, but the structure retained a workshop-type use for more than 150 years—making its present life as a creative space feel especially fitting.

Our Team

M24 Arts is supported by a small team of staff and volunteers who serve customers, prepare workshops, organise donations and share creative ideas. Everyone brings something different to the space, and we hope to introduce the team properly here soon.

We’d Love to Meet You

Whether you are looking for your first ball of yarn, joining a workshop, searching for inspiration or simply having a browse, you are always welcome at M24 Arts.
